“Nothing quite beats speaking to your peer group”

WHAT IS PEER SUPPORT?

Peer support is when people use their own experiences to help each other. There are different types of peer support, but they all aim to:

  • bring together people with shared experiences to support each other

  • provide a space where you feel accepted and understood

  • treat everyone’s experiences as being equally important

  • involve both giving and receiving support

WHAT IS HAPPENING IN PERTH AND KINROSS?

We know that those with direct experience of getting care and support will have a wealth of knowledge to share and that talking to those with similar experiences can be invaluable.

On this basis we would like to facilitate the development of Self-directed Support Peer Support groups here in Highland Perthshire which will complement the support provided by our community work team.

HOW CAN I GET INVOLVED?

We are aware that those trying to access care and support don’t always have extra capacity for meetings and so we would like to help build a peer support model which will work for those who use it.  We’d love to hear people’s thoughts on how we can best structure and support the group.
